"A Dream to Never Stop Dreaming" Story Sample

Chapter 1

“Mom, I have big plans! I promise, I do. Maybe I will join the army or navy, and become an officer. I’m a really good leader, don’t you think? And you are able to travel the world and meet new people. Or maybe I will start my own business-an art gallery, probably-or a tour guide business! What about becoming an author so I can write about my adventures? Or-”
“Child, if you don’t hush up, I will make you,” Mom snapped.

        “But Mom-”

“That’s enough, I say! When I want nonsense said to me, I will personally give you a Babbling Beverage. Since I have not-”

“Mom, when will you listen to me? I have dreams here that I want to accomplish, and you just stand there telling me to-”

“Don’t you think there are who people can write better than you, Annabeth? And a tour guide business? You barely can tell Africa and Australia apart! Forget about the art gallery, you don’t even know who Picasso is!”

        “Who?” Annabeth wondered, confused.
“Just stop dreaming, Annabeth, and start focusing on a real future. Your fallacies are nauseating me. Why don’t you take after me, and become an accountant?”

“How can I hope to make you understand what I feel? This is pivotal to me. Well, who am I kidding? You don’t dream at all.”
“I dream that you stop chattering nonsense,” Mom muttered causticly.
Annabeth groaned in frustration, and stomped upstairs angrily.
“Why won’t she understand me?” Annabeth yelled. “Mom is purposefully attempting to negate my wishes, hopes and dreams!”

Meanwhile, in her kitchen, Mom was talking to herself quietly. “That girl is the complete opposite of tractable. Why can’t Annabeth just forget about her dreams and move on? Does she have to be so voracious about her life’s goals? Her brain has teemed with useless thoughts...I must rid of them as soon as possible.” Wringing her hands, she groaned in frustration.
